My husband asked me to make him a collapsible stool that he would be able to be stored in a vehicle to take to different work areas. He works on the airport navigation system so his equipment is spread all over the place with a lot of it being outside. He wanted something that would allow him to sit down while working on repairing it but not take up a lot of storage space. The taller one is about 24" tall and the short one is about 16". The taller one was my prototype that he decided he would also use. After I made the taller one, he tells me he wants one about table chair height instead of workbench height. I used square wire lock pins on lanyards to fasten the parts together for portability and storage.
My daughter asked for a small catapult for her birthday. It is about 2" tall by 5" long.

How cool it that! The stools are amazing and the catapult .... I want one! LOL

I oughta make a stool like that for my shop. I don’t use one a lot, so a stool usually just takes up space. But on occasion, I do want to sit and think.

BTW, my late father also worked on airport navigation/beacon equipment. It was a different sort of work that (for the particular stuff he supported) not everyone wanted to undertake. He actually would drive up from lower Illinois to way up Iowa-way to support certain fields.
Unique chairs like you have done would have been right up his alley. Also, for the field closest to his house, he found a way to comply with "low vegetation near the building" regulations by growing certain vegetables in circles around the round building off the airstrip. The veggies didn't shoot up like the native grasses...

The stools were made using construction grade 3/4" plywood scraps laying around the shop. I know that I put way more dowels than needed in the taller stool but I had just received the new Jessem doweling jig, I wanted to try. I figured that stool would be staying in the shop. The legs do have a slight taper to them so the base is larger than the top but I did not measure it. Each side tapered in 1 1/2" from the bottom. I used the taller stool as a template to get the same taper on the smaller one. The holes are just to decrease the weight. The seats are 12" square that I rounded the corners on and then the top edge. I deliberately put the lock pins in about the center of the legs to be used to carry the chairs. Paint was was just what I had extra from a previous project.

Chris, the work is spread out as one work center is responsible for multiple airports and some of the outer markers can be over 20 miles from the end of the runways.

The catapult is made up of scrap pieces as well. Rjent, let me get my notes together on making it and I will get them to you.

If you want to keep him on his toes make those pegs up through the seat a lot taller and sharpen them...

Here is a vintage photo of my Dad in the 1960's. War-Surplus equipment has just been brought on-line at the local airport. They are standing inside the corrugated omni building. Dad did the bring-up work (on the left); and the regulatory guys are on the right.
