I have been wanting to build a motorized stand for my bandsaw for a while and recently got a spare bandsaw, motor, and SPT bracket for a stand. However, price of materials is always a barrier so I decided to go super cheap and use three 2x4s, a 24" square sheet of 1/4" mdf, and a spare piece of plywood. This is what I have so far. Still need to get longer mounting bolts, place the motor inside the lower box, and install the safety switch. However I am pleased with it not looking like a total 2x4 glob.

One neat aspect is the door to the motor is actually just a sliding panel. One rabbet on the side goes all the way through so the panel slides out through the side of the cabinet. I may still mount it to casters and add a deep drawer to the bottom for weight and added storage. We shall see what tomorrow brings... Maybe even paint. Lol

There is nothing wrong with 2x4 construction. It looks real good. I would have made it a bit bigger but then I would just be perpetuating my existing problem (not enough room).

It's small for a comfortable height of the bandsaw table, and I actually originally planned it bigger (18x18 instead of 16x16) but I made it without writing anything down really, just a mental picture... So piss poor planning. Lol.

As for 2x4 construction, I had joined, planed and ripped a lot to avoid it looking like 2x4s, and will still do some routing to help that a bit. I just wanted to go cheap while avoiding it looking cheap (thus panels instead of plywood doors. Just really a personal preference. I also might add a laminate to the top, but didn't have any big enough scraps of counter top laying around. The only big one in saving for a 3' x 3' outfeed take if I can justify that use of space.

It's funny how I spend more time making shop furniture than house furniture. Guess I like just beefing up the shop.

Maybe momma does not want 2x4 furniture regardless of disguises.

It took me a long time to accept that I don't really care all that much about finding projects... The shops are my projects.
I finally made my peace with myself that as long as I was enjoying what I am doing, that it is fully OK.
Also I have more interest in large (ish) projects rather than "fine furniture". I hope to get at least 2 hay wagon beds built this spring / summer. Sooner than that I want to build a quick mobile "Pod" for storing Christmas decorations (about 8'W x 12'L x 8'H) . These things are more carpentry than furniture making but I enjoy that kind of work too.
Between 4 AM and 6AM this morning I freed up and cleaned up about 150 sq. ft. of area in the shop (one advantage of a basement shop ) and I was almost giddy...
