Speed gage doesn't rotate when turning handle

I have one of those old Shopsmith's with a toggle switch on the side of the headstock, and below it is the handle that controls the motor speed. Around it is a rotating gage like disk that shows the speed it is supposed to be running. I can rotate the handle, but the gage does not rotate anymore. Is there a way to fix this? Or do I need to buy a new Shopsmith?

You will have to take the speed handle off and pull the gauge to see the gears under it. Then you can see what the problem is. The instructions to work on it are in the manual.
The parts are shown on this pdf. #84 and #85 on page 6 are the handle and its set screw that holds it on.

Make sure the motor is running before turning the speed dial. Doing so could cause damage.

More than likely the gear teeth on the knob are stripped.
I recommend the e-bay solution! He will exchange yours for a fixed one immediately. If you wish 'yours' back, request it but it will add time to the turn around.

Very true, but would not cause this problem. The knob gear only turns the indicator ring(plus the idler gear).
