Rifle case for my brother.
Ebonized walnut, maple and mesquite.
He wants the next one made with olive wood.

I'm having trouble seeing the construction. Did you make a mitered box, and then add maple keys? Or is the whole thing dovetailed?

Very nice! You can make such beautiful things from wood. That one should be an heirloom some day.

Mitered and keyed. The maple stripes are strips laid in when the panels were glued up. They determined where the keys went.

Thanks, Dave, Paul, Al, Gary and Cooch. It was fun.

Thanks, Hobbyman. The finish is one application of dark Walnut Watco followed by Watco/varnish mix @ 50/50, another @ 70% varnish and 30% Watco and a final with varnish and just a tad of Watco. All wiped on and abraded between coats. Finally, Johnson's paste wax applied with Liberon #0000 wool. Then mechanically buffed.
