I can't quit saving pieces of firewood headed for the furnace to use in the woodshop. This little piece is one I trimmed off of a corner of a much larger piece like it.
It's lightly spalted tiger maple.
Tiger Maple is figured maple not a different species of maple. What you see is not growth rings but a grain distortion that sometimes forms running the other direction.
I also have a small but growing batch of saved sections of 8" to 12" diameter hollow limb wood that is going to become natural looking bird and squirrel houses.
I can't help it... I just can't chuck that kind of stuff in to burn...

Why would you want to “reform”?

If your tiger-maple pile gets too big, you can always slice it up into blanks and sell it on eBay. (Or if that’s too much work, just ship the excess to me! :D ).

I daresay the wood in your photo would sell nicely.

Wish I had that problem. Quality hardwood, or any hardwood for that matter, is tough to come by in my neck of the woods.
