Just drew a pattern of a 15” star on paper. Drew another star inside of it 1” smaller which gives a 1/2” wall thickness. Continued till the last star was about 4”. Glued pattern to a 1” thick walnut board. Cut all stars on 22 1/2* angle (I think) then stacked the “rings” one on top another. Thats about as simple as I can explain the built.

Love it! Your description of your method sounds very similar in concept to the more common "bowl from a board" method --- only those are usually just round.

Breathtaking! What a cool idea
Soooo, how did you get rid of the ridges of the "rings"? Chisel(s)? Hand sanding?
Again, very nicely done!

Sanding, all hand sanding. I picked the shape of a star because the bowl was for my son’s best girl that he proposed to under the star in Roanoke VA.

Great project, are you thinking of a specific finish?

I put Minwax polycrylic water base on it. If I had it to do over I would’ve used tung oil. What I know about woodworking or finishes you could write on a match pack with a 2” paint brush.

I absolutely love this bowl! I fell in love with it when I saw it here and even registered here .
It's will be beautiful on my kitchen counter filled with fruit, I can see myself filling it with decorations for the holidays later.
The color of the wood is beautiful!
Cheers,
