I have a 1983 bandsaw and the old rubber tire on the lower wheel is not glued on.
When I replace it with a new rubber tire does it need to be glued on.
If it does what type of glue should I use.

I used what Shopsmith sent me when I replaced my rubber tires last year. It's some type of rubber cement I think.

They call it "Special Adhesive" which looks like a contact cement somewhat like the adhesive used for patching inner tubes. If you are replacing the Bandsaw Tire with a rubber one order the replacement that comes with the adhesive. While at it check the upper tire on your Bandsaw to see of it need replacing soon. It is probably as old as the lower one. If so order just a second tire as there should be enough adhesive for both. Don't guess at an adhesive to use because if you guess wrong it could eat up the rubber in the tire.

If you do not want to mess with gluing tires on the Bandsaw wheels you could change to the Urethane Bandsaw Tires. They do not require gluing in place. They are more expensive but are supposed to last longer.

If you cant find any thing I used windshield adhesive from the auto parts store and it has worked very well , bonds rubber to metal.
