score at the old mill

a few days ago I went by the mill looking for some red oak for a set of stairs , while I was there I found a few pieces of honey locust , 3.5 x 3 x3 ft long and a 2x10 the same length , my plan is now to use the honey locust for the newel post and cut the 2x into square tops on the post . the honey locust is very pinkish in color , dad said they used honey locust years ago for shovel handles , ax handles and about every other handle you can think of , my hope is it should make a very solid post . it is very hard , very dense and very heavy .

I love turning locust. Be sure to turn it green. It's like concrete when dry. Does not move a lot.

I ran the honey locust through the planer and it looks very good , I cant wait until I can get started using it.
It is very heavy and dense compared to oak , picked up a new blade for the table saw just for this purpose .
