Hello SS'ers,

I am heading out tomorrow to pick up my first Shopsmith.
I believe it to be a Mark V 500. I have yet to see the serial numbers in order to get more information on its age. Please advise on things to look for and reasons to avoid purchasing. Also, I know that you can never have enough tools, so I posted a poll to help direct future purchases.

Welcome to the forum. Look in the Maintenance and Repair section, the top three sticky subject threads contain a lot of information that you will want to look through. The Large Format Drawings, Illustrations and More has a link to where you can find the guide Buying a Used Shop Smith.

If you don't have a jointer and a planer you will be limited to what you can get from the mill/box store already square and thicknessed; but it doesn't have to be a Shopsmith brand jointer or planer.

The Shopsmith band saw and belt sander are fantastic.

If all goes well I should have a SS Mark V 500 (I believe), SS 12" Pro Planer (stand alone unit), SS 11" Bandsaw (stand alone unit), SS dust collection system (DC3300 version I believe), SS 20" scroll saw and a few other items...

Don't worry about it. I figured you did not read the signature line and most woodworkers are male.
