I recently bought a used 510 upgrade and I received 3 extension tables. The problem is none of the three have any studs. The single 500 table has four bolts but the new table has no threads to receive these bolts. Do I have to tap the four holes to receive these bolts or must I figure out how to install studs? Seems like six of one half dozen of the other but will I run into trouble during alignment?

Normally one of the tables would have been threaded and been the "fixed" extension table with tubes to mount it. If none of the three has threads then you will have to thread them. You will want to get the 3/8-16 tap and a bottoming tap if you don't have them.

Then a trip to the store if need be for some studs. Don't get ones label automotive as they are a lot more expensive and you don't need them. I just got some for my son and paid I think $1.19 each for the 3" length.

I like to thread the studs in (you can use two nuts jammed together to put them in. I then add a nut(optional) snugged up to the table followed by a second nut, washer, washer and nut. The legs mount between the two washers.

This allow the adjustments you need.

You can also get threaded rod and cut your own but it is a lot nicer to just buy the studs at that price.

A 510 upgrade s/b three 7" wide tables with only one with threaded holes. Normally the mounting post from the 500 table is transferred to the 510 threaded table. Historically the tables were attached to the posts with bolts/washers(no studs - non adjustable). An improvement was the use of studs and additional nuts and washers which made them adjustable.

I don't know for certain because I cannot go out to count them but I have either six or eight 7" extension tables. What I do know for certain is that they are all taped and threaded taped for studs. Except for those that I threaded, each of the tables have only four holes threaded.

What you actually bought was three floating tables which is why none of them had the threaded studs installed.

When installing your own make sure the studs are long enough so there is almost 2" showing. the table is attached to the base/tubes with a nut first, a washer, the base, a washer and finally a nut. This allows leveling the table to match the Main Table.

I hope that you know that the post and casting from the old 500 system is used to mount the newer auxiliary table to the machine. If the holes are not tapped you have to tap them. For best results use a "bottoming" tap to get all the way to the bottom of the holes. The remaining tables are the floating tables that ride on the extension tubes between the main table and the end table.
