I restored a 10ER a couple years ago but someone wanted it more than I did so it got sold. I have found another one I may buy and since I thought the tablesaw part of the 10ER was lacking, I bought a Dewalt portable table saw.
Very accurate and safe. I want to use the new 10ER as a drill press mostly and as a lathe once in a while. I want to keep the 10ER in the drill press position and drop my Dewalt table saw on the table between the tubes and the support on the left hand side. Can someone measure that distance for me to see if I have room to do this?

On mine it is 40 3/4" from the head rest to the pivot base.

Translation, (with the 10ER in drill press mode)

I want to keep the 10ER in the drill press position and drop my Dewalt table saw on the bench (table) between the way tubes and the head rest (support on the left hand side).

I got the raised to vertical part, it is where(on the table yes) you want to place the saw that I fail to understand. The 'left support' I fail to recognize. Between the tubes seems clear enough(I think ).

I think he means to put the saw on the bench, just to the right of the left support, keeping the 10er in the drill press mode...

The measurement asked for then should be the distance from the right(hinge) base casting and the headrest.(IIUC) The casting sticks out further than the way tubes.

I leave it for others to make that measurement(mine is not accessible today).

I came up with he same distance as Ron did. Measured across the wood (the narrowest point) it is 40 3/4" from the Base to the 4 Bolt Headrest on my 10E S/N 4708. It is 41 3/4" from the Base to the Jointer Headrest on my 10ER S/N 64000. Sorry I don't have any other Model 10's restored and mounted on benches at this time so I do not know the measurement for the 2 Bolt Headrest. With the Shopsmith in the Drill Press position there is 40 3/4" to 41 3/4" of open bench space depending on the Headrest and how it was assembled. I have seen Headrests located closer in and farther out than they should be. My one question is - are you planning on storing the table saw there or use it in that position? The Way Tubes of the Shopsmith will limit your clearance on that side to the blade.
