Is "Powertool Woodworking For Everyone" also for Mark 7?

I am a new owner of the Mark 7 and before I order myself a copy I wonder if the book "Powertool Woodworking For Everyone" which I think was written for the Mark V is still relevant for the newer machine. Also, how different is this book from the "Powertool Woodworking" reference manual that came with the Mark 7 or are they the same?

Shopsmith has a version of PTWFE free on-line for you to read.

It was written for earlier machines but relevant to most tool operation. It shows 510 where your Mark 7 has upgraded 520 tables.

Other photos of earlier machines are present in many of the illustrations in tool operation from the earlier tables also

Section downloads are available as well.

See http://www.shopsmith.com/academy/introduction.htm

Excellent. Thank you for the link. Looking at some entries it seems that the book that came with the Mark 7 has almost the same content as the PTWFE. Same photos, and the same references to the Mark V.

If you got your machine from shopsmith then you should have gotten a supplemental manual call "Shopsmith Mark7 Home Workshop System" along with your other "stuff".

Although earlier versions were created for use with earlier SS models, the book is for the most part about operations that can be performed with the SS using any model.

The difference between a MV 520 and a M7 is essentially limited to the headstock motor and the dual tilt etc..

The pictures vary, and some things change between versions, but most is interchangeable.

As has been already said Power Tool Woodworking for Everyone can be used for the same functions on the Mark 7 as well as the Mark V/5. It does not show the under table functions like shaping and routing that the Mark 7 can do. There is another lesser known book that was written for the old Mark VII that includes the under table functions. It is Modern Power Tool Woodworking also written by R. J. De Cristoforo. It is available through used book sellers on line. Keep in mind that it was written back in the 1960's and the old Mark VII is different than the new Mark 7.

The resources you already have like the manual and at this web site should get far on your way to using your Mark 7.

Yes, I got the Mark 7 directly from Shopsmith and here are the manuals that came with it:
  • Manual For The Shopsmith Mark 7
  • Self-Study Course For: The Shopsmith Mark 7
  • Powertool Woodworking 4th Edition Reference Manual - It's from 1985 and references the Mark V
I don't see one named "Shopsmith Mark 7 Home Workshop System" maybe it was renamed to "Manual For The Shopsmith Mark 7"?

That could well be the case. Not sure how we can tell without see what is in each others but I'll check mine later and see if I can identify a few pages that you could look for in your manual.... to locate or perhaps not locate.

Located. I was about to upload a photo of the table of contents when I noticed that the name of the manual on the cover is different than then name of the manual on the first page...

Cover name: "Manual For The Shopsmith Mark 7"
1st page name: "Shopsmith PowerPro Mark 7 Home Workshop System"

Mystery solved! Shopsmith has decided to confuse me... :)

Confused us both!

I also was just looking at my book and noticed that there was another section called "Under Table Routing and Shaping with the Double-Tilt System" that I seem to recall being missing in the other manual. You might want to see if you have a similar section or have it under another name...... Pages are labeled B-1 thru B-22.
