Can anyone tell me what size set screw is used in the motor pulley on the Power Pro? I ordered one 10 days ago, was told they were in stock and would ship last Friday or Monday. Just called and they are out of them until the end of August? Really? I am just about to dump all of this crap and go with something else. If I knew what size it is I would just go get one.

Sorry for the rant, but this has just gotten unacceptable ....

So, to reiterate, does anyone know the size of this thing? The catalog doesn't say (conveniently) and I know the allen wrench used is a 2.5 mm indicating it is metric. I am hoping I can get one somewhere else.

Years ago I got the assortment box of set screws from Harbor Freight $9 has come in pretty handy on several occasions. Cheap way to fix your problem. Just keep trying different ones until one fits. Not sure if they make a metric one, I'm sure some one does if they don't

Just a thought (for future reference), did you ask for the size when you were talking to CS? If it is not detailed in the documentation that you have, CS would probably not know anyhow but it would have been a good try.

Shopsmith is real good at not providing this sort of detail.

Maybe we need another spreadsheet that details all of the common hardware (bolts, nuts, washers, screws and set screws) that are used in the PowerPro. Metric. huh. Not surprising, considering the point of origin.

Yeah Dusty, I did ask and she couldn't/wouldn't tell me. The fact that another item is back ordered, and a set screw for crying out loud, is just not acceptable to me. If you are not going to give us the size, then send someone to the hardware store and get a handful. This seeming lack of effort on SS part has me measuring my shop for dedicated machines. I don't know if I can get it all in, but I am seriously going to try.

I don't know the answer but a quick glance at the charts shows that set screws that use the 2.5mm are likely 5mm but then there are the other things like pitch and length and point type....

You can always go to the hardware store and see what is in stock and pick up a few possible ones to try....... take your allen wrench with you to see if the head is right.

Back in the old days (think 'Magna") the parts list included the size etc. and called them a 'common hardware item' available 'locally'.

Another owner had a similar issue on the fan with the set screw. Since the DVR Motor is made abroad only, it’s metric.

He took the fan to hardware store and quickly found the right size. I can’t remember what site it was, and due to the torque on the drive pulley, it’s likely larger. If yours has deep enough threads on the pulley, after using the thread locker of your choice on the set screw and letting it set up in the threads, I would run in a second set screw to act as a jamb nut of sorts.

Update: I found the other thread where the set screw for the Index/Fan came out and he had to find a replacement. His set screw size was M5x6 on the fan end.

part numbers along with a 'where used" we'll have an even better start.

I read somewhere that the inventor of the Linotype automation machine mechanizing the former cold type setting nearly went insane.

I propose not to follow in his footsteps relative to the "Shopsmith parts where used" concept....

OKAY, that is perfectly fair. AND I may do very little more myself because I do not have a PowerPro to use as a test bed.

When I did my spreadsheet on Shopsmith set screws I literally removed set screws from all over the Shopsmith equipment just to see what my equipment had been assembled with. Can't do that without a PowerPro. However, I cannot imagine that there are more than three or four setscrew locations in the PowerPro Headstock and I assume that the common applications in the rest of a Mark 7 are no different than my Mark V, Model 510.
