There was a board laying along side one of the major roads we use and it laying there for days and we and everyone else passed it by. On one of my walks I took the bike path that goes that way and it was still laying there. On my return I decided I pick it up. It still had the sticker on it so about 10 days before it must have been a new board. Now with a bit of road rash and a few black streaks and well some embedded rocks....... but still no use letting it sit there any longer.

It wasn't trash but it wasn't good for a nice project. Did I mention it was PVC? From the label it was a x 6 x 8' with a smooth face and wood grain look face. Most of the damage was on the wood grain side.

After thinking about it for a couple of weeks I though why not make a couple of wren size birdhouses out of it. So that is what I did today.

I also like to think of ways I can use my SO so I added them in to the process. First was a couple of vents on the front for circulation. The perfect place to try out my vertical work station. It worked great!

Then I wanted to make the hole something different, since I had two birdhouses I'd do two different fronts. Used the shopsmith to hold the parts and cut away.....

There are also vent holes on the sides and a slit in the back. Also some drain holes in the bottom and it all assembled with screws. Here the boxes are together but the fronts are not attached yet.

It was fun and I wish I had more of this material to work with to make a few more birdhouses very easy to work with except for the dust while cutting the parts to size.
