Now that Rick Davis' DVD on Maintenance and Alignment has been out for almost a year, what other topics/subjects will Shopsmith owners like to see on DVD/VHS.

Rick has said that his next one is going to be about cabinet making. I also have gleaned from Rick's posts that he will be producing that DVD this year.

Just ordered Rick's dvd on maint and align. I am thrilled that I can get to see how to do things in action. I am really a beginner at this and seeing how to do things in action really helps. This is the best thing Shopsmith can do to a loyal following. I've seen some of the local presentations at Home Depot and I'd suggest that they have these dvd's for sale there. I would have bought them if I would have known they were available.

thanks for the interest in training DVD's. Yes, my plan is to produce several more over the next two years. These will cover topics that will span my 50 years in woodworking from cabinet making to architectural interiors and everything in between. I have contacted my videographer and scheduled for the cabinet making DVD to begin filming this coming month. I hope to have it ready for release in Oct or Nov, just in time for Christmas.

Hi Folks,

Thanks to everyone who has voted in the poll thus far. It is very interesting to see what is coming out on top.

I figured that woodturning would be one of the top three, but I also thought that cabinet making would be number one. As the poll shows, it looks like more owners are looking for help with the Special Purpose Tools than anything else.

Rick has written that his next DVD will be focusing on cabinet making. And that is great because it is one of the topics at the top of the poll. It's also great because my "little miss'" really wants a new kitchen. A new kitchen for her (and yes, me) and some new tools for me. What great compromise.

I'm glad to see, and a bit surprised, that "Shaker Furniture" is hanging around the middle of the poll. I myself thought it would be somewhere in the bottom two. But that is why these type of polls are so great. You find out things that you didn't know woodworkers are interested in learning right now. I love making Shaker furniture. It ranks right up there with my woodturning and small box making.

Have I mentioned that my newest woodworking interest is scoll-sawing? I love pyrography (woodburning) too.

For pyrography, I've been doing it for quite a while now (hence my online name, "Woodburner"). Lately I've been creating 5-6 ft. long pyrographed murals for fireplace mantles. When I get the chance, I'll take some photos of them and put them on the forum. I didn't place this topic in the poll because it doesn't really involve Shopsmith tools, except for when I'm preparing the wood for burning. The other topics cover that part of it.

If some of you don't see something that you want voted for in the poll, just post a message and let us all know what you are interested in. It might be one of those things that wasn't thought of until you read it, and you thump yourself in the head while saying "of course, why didn't I think about that".

For those who haven't voted yet, please do so. I think Rick is also following the poll for input on what type of DVD's owners will like to put in their future "Rick Davis' Shopsmith Journals" DVD library.

What a great surprise for a Shopsmith owner on Christmas Day. I will love it. Problem is, when some owners see that it is for sale, they'll jump on it quick, just so long that Shopsmith adjusts the shipping cost like Rick wishes they will do.

I think that was major problem with the DVD sales at the beginning. Owners are waiting until they order something else and adding the DVD to the order so they can justify the cost of shipping. Shopsmith is charging a lot for shipping a single DVD, and that is why I waited too.

I should probably keep out of this but you know what with all the excellent Woodworking shows on TV, Sawdust sessions here, other sites that offer free woodworking how to's and etc I haven't had time to watch all the free stuff how would I ever watch more, let alone justify paying for it.
I'm sorry but with all the magazines, how to shows, books, video tapes in the Libraries, different youtube type things here on the internet I'm in info overload already now.
What I would pay for if the price was right is for Rick to come here and do some of my honey do's for me.

I'm with you, Ed! That is the major reason I like magazines! I can catalog them and refer to the index as the need arises. AND! I can do that in my shop, without turning on this damned computer!

But Computers, cell phones, Blackberries are for the younger crowd. Yea for them! Bless their hearts! So much time spent communicating non personably, there's no time for doing anything time consuming!

Don't take me wrong! I love this Forum and the folks on it! Just hate the computer!

Your right I knew it but never said it the way you did. I literally treasure my old Hands on magazines and I have every issue of Wood so I have a ready reference to any project. I'm now considering Woodsmith and Shopnotes and dropping Wood mag.

Hi Ed,

I get all three. Woodsmith, Shopnotes, and Wood. I wouldn't stop taking any of them. I have all issues of the first two but not of Wood. They all have great stuff, tips, techniques and projects. My list of projects exceeds my budget by a long shot but I'll be happily making sawdust until I die! My only real problem is starting to be finding space to store all of them.

I soon may have to start scanning and filing things on DVDs.

P.S. Forgot to say that I also REALLY enjoy using the computer unlike you and Chuck. But then I got started using them when they first came out in the early 80s and was involved with them in my Air Force jobs for many years.
