I just picked a video , there are many to view

A friend of ours is doing some R&R on a boat transom , the damage isnt that bad and this product was recommended by the dealer , they told him this is what they use and it sets up like concrete , they claim it uses the wood as its own filler , they claim it penetrates the wood fibers .
My question is when it comes to gluing out door furniture would this be a ideal glue ?

I assume that is just a very thin epoxy. If I was making a furniture joint, I don't think I would use thin epoxy. I would use epoxy thickened with some micro fibers, which makes a very strong waterproof glue.

It used to be called the WEST System. It was developed by the guy who ultimately became West Marine. WEST stands for wood epoxy saturation technique. It was very popular for sealing plywood hulls and wood for marine use. It is almost as thin as alcohol and will penetrates wood completely. Very effective for waterproofing wood but doesn’t really have holding power such as the thicker epoxies.

After watching the video about the west system it can be used as a filler and boding agent ?

was thinking as a marine product it might be good for all around out door use and stop or slow down decay ?

It's amazing stuff. Also expensive so not practical to cover everything in it. Also breaks down with UV exposure so if it is going to be exposed to the sun it needs a top coat of a UV-blocking finish (varnish or paint).

1. The OP is a bona fide member of the forum.
2. He has no financial interest in the product to which he's linking.
3. The information is indeed useful to some of us. For example, I'm about to have my house and deck painted. Some of the deck posts are badly weathered/checked on top, and one is downright rotted. This penetrating epoxy sealer sounds like just the thing to address those problems prior to painting.

Intent is to merely inform.


If it were to be considered spam and excluded, we all would be lesser informed.

I for one prefer irrelevance etc. to silence(continued ignorance).
