Just joined the forum, I'm a new owner of a V 500 1980 machine. I was sent the machine, but must be missing some parts to complete the safety guards. I'm sending pictures of it so maybe someone can return a photo of what I'm missing to connect the saw guard to the base. If I need to send more, I can. Thanks for any help you can give me. I'm still in the middle of restoration, but it's coming along.

My machine is about the same vintage as yours, and I don't think your upper guard is meant for this model, or possibly not even for a Shopsmith. The lower guard is correct (original to that model).

An upgraded version of the upper and lower saw guard is available for your model. I kept my original lower guard, but upgraded to the clear plastic upper guard. The original upper guard attaches using the bracket on the original lower guard ... the upgraded upper guard attaches to the table structure, so it can be independent of the lower guard.

Here are some pictures of the upgraded upper guard, its associated mounting block, and my original upper guard. Original upper guards frequently show up on ebay ... upgraded upper guards not too often.

With the original lower guard, there was also a spacer added after first sold, to enable use of the lower guard with a dado stack. If you don't have that, you may want to pick one up, or make one like I did. https://www.shopsmith.com/ss_forum/main ... 20840.html

It may well be an optical allusion or maybe I just don't know what I am talking about but the saw blade appears to me to be larger than 10".

It's 10", but for the life of me I cannot figure out how to hook this up. Anyone have a picture of the back of the saw that has the connection to the rear of the table vs inside?

SEE "500 upper guard 1,2,3" above. That is what you are missing. What you have is not a SS part.

If you don't need this guard any longer or want to sell it, I may be interested. I may never use the table saw portion because I have a 12" compound miter saw and a Craftsman table saw, but would this could be part of my restoration project.

If you do not think you will use the table saw function, you do not need the guard anyway.

Don't stress over not having it!

The upper guard you have looks like the one from my 10" Craftsman Table Saw, late 1980's vintage. This is what the upper and lower saw guard look like attached together, just not on a machine.
