The Shopsmith makes it too easy! I needed neatly spaced holes drilled in a strip of wood so I can use dowels to space my lathe chisels in the new rack I am building (my fourth redesign in about as many years). Used a T nut and some scrap wood. Quick and dirty, but worked great! No measuring, no center lines to scribe.

And no, I don't have a cat. The bucket came with the used Shopsmith 500, now 520 Shortened...

Very clever, Chris! I had to study it a bit before I could figure out how it worked. I think I may have an application for a jig like that myself.

I gather that you can change the hole spacing by simply sliding the jig on the fence ... do you have any particular system for setting the desired hole spacing?

Yes, slide on the fence. If you have a wider board, d rill a new hole. Easy peasy! I did not have any system for the spacing, I just drilled a few test holes and when it looked right I went with it.

In case you were wondering, this is the lathe chisel rack. Room for 22 lathe tools and I can fit my 8 (yes 8) chucks in the bottom section. I may or may not add doors... So far built out of scrap wood.

Nice job. Your scrap wood looks a lot nicer than my scrap wood.

I think so. However, tolerances between the two adjacent rows would be more critical(rocking shelve).

I'd use this jig to make a full-length drilling template, and then use that template to drill all the shelf supports. That would ensure that all supports for a given shelf are at the exact same height. Especially if you're willing to invest ten bucks in a drill bushing.
