My son got me a new phone, iphone xr to be exact. We are not making friends, the phone and I. I like the slick feel and how things slide around but it did take me a little while to figure out how to close apps..... not so intuitive to me but I got it. It is much faster then the old samsung s5 and the battery seems to be at least twice as long lasting.

One of the killers at the moment is that I can't load icloud on either of my pc's. Looks like I'm not the only one. So while the camera seems to be top notched, again in comparison to my old phone not having access to them from the pc is a show stopper, but not the only one.

Can't seem to find a way to access my local cloud drives either. And Alexa stopped being able to control my lights, the ios app is flacks so I had to go back to the old phone and reset it up. And I haven't even gotten to the hard stuff yet.

Now I remember how bad it is to not know what you are doing with a new phone. Stuff I was taking for granted would work doesn't. Part of it is me I know but some of it seems like a lot of people are having the same problems with too. Well have a few more days to decide to keep it or not. Leaning towards the not at this point.

Would rather be working on some projects in the shop but can't until I get some of these issues worked out.

And just to make life interesting my wife's new tablet arrived so another adventure. Don't expect that to be to difficult as it is so similar to the one she already has. Old one is a 2014 but they have not upgraded android on it and will not. Other then needing a new battery and connector it is serviceable so I may attempt that repair and keep it as a spare or take it to the shop to replace the 7" I have with this 10".

Well at least it something to do while the show flies. Forecast was for .1" and we are well over an inch and it still snowing.

I feel your pain. Last year I went from Iphone to Samsung. I am still figuring it out! We might be getting too old for this change!

You might be right about the too old for this, well at least in my case.

So far I've gotten the cloud drives working so I can back up the pictures and movies to it and then have access from the PC to the pictures. It works so now on to other issues.

Haven't gotten to the tablet yet, battery is still charging so a little more time to play with the phone.

Haven't found a setting to get the apps in alphabetic alignment yet, hope there is one. Hate to think I'd have to do it one at a time.....

Yes, I am changing the subject a wee bit but since you are talking about new (self induced problems) I have a question.

If I remember correctly, you are a Microsoft Insider. If you are, have you experienced 1809 and if so, does it work for you.

Unless the app has crashed, or is not responding, there is no need to close it.

I'm on 19H1 build 18277. I have not had issues on any builds in a long while. I haven't had time to play with some of the new things in the build yet due to other issues like the phone and tablet changes in the wind. All the stuff I normally run is working fine, well except the issue of trying to install the icloud which could be any number of issues.....

Perhaps I used the wrong phrase. With ios 12.1 at least you have no buttons on the bottom so you can either swipe up from the bottom towards the top and move the app off screen or do it halfway up and then off the screen to close it. The apps beginning to stack up and a few are easy to deal with but when you get a lot of them it gets messy and finding the one you want isn't a clean operation so that is way I will leave a few that I use often but when it gets too crowded I clean it up. No idea how this worked before since I'm new to this version.

I also really like the little switch to turn off the ringer on this phone. Don't know if that has been a thing on iphones but I like it.

The tablet was a breeze. After it was fully charged I got it going to the point where it needed to update all the installed apps so I went for a walk. About 45 minutes later it was done (when I returned from my walk) and I installed the apps I wanted and then got things working for the wife the way she likes them.

A lot of good changes since the 2014 model, now I sort of wish I had one.... but no I'm fine with what I have but still would like a lap top again, well actually something like the surface 6 would be nice. But then there is the new camera I have my eye on, the festools I'd like to have and have to start thinking about another van, oh yea what ever happened to that drone I was going to get???? So little time, so little money and such a big wish list.

Found this measurement tool on the phone, and it is going to be very useful.

The photo doesn't do it justice, the starting point was actually right on the end of the ruler and the second point was, as you might have guessed the 2" mark.

Anyone else have this and can comment on it and how it might become even more useful? I've just started playing with it and have no instructions, just playing it by ear as they say.
