Opinions matters-

I’m not a long time woodworker but as I prepare to work my last 7-10 years I would like something that is close to trouble free, so I can piddle.

I’ve got on opportunity to purchase a 1998 510 with planer, and band saw both new in box and the head unit and table saw looks like it had one board through it. The whole thing looks brand new. No rust or pits etc.

I research through paralysis by analysis and I’m wondering if purchasing a new Mark 7 for 1 million dollars, Lol or buying this other for $1650.

I ask because there has been a few complaints on the electronics for the PP.

I assume you meant a jointer, not a planer.

If it is in as good condition as you described, run not walk to get it asap.

Try to haggle, but do return home with it.

As for the Mark 7 you can upgrade the 510 all the way to a Mark 7 later if thee so desires.

I leave to thee to work out the $$$ math.

Getting the Mark V now will get you started on gaining experience.

True there have been reports of trouble with the electronics, but I think the numbers are very low. Trouble is, self fixing(like with the mechanical speed control) is simply not likely.

I agree with JPG on this. If it is as described you are getting a really good deal. A new Band Saw is $579.99 and a new Jointer is $549.99. Bargaining may get it for less. Later you can look at upgrading it to the 520 Pro Fence, the double tilt upgrade and the Power Pro headstock whether DIY or purchase one and you will have a Mark 7.

Thanks again for the recommendation. Oh I forgot to say it comes with a 3300 dust collector too.

Let me ask this? It’s missing many pieces. Drill chuck and key, both pieces for the lathe, safety kit, I added it all up on the website and it totals more than $600 not including shipping.

Drill chuck and spur drive and dead center can all be obtained on E-Bay for less than $100 total.
