Motor belt broken

Hi everyone,
I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice on what would cause the belt to break?

Thank-you for the quick reply, I tried to post a picture but it said that it was too big file size.
Yes it looked dried out . I also had too change the off/on switch as well. I was thinking that I didn’t get the dial gear to go on very good at first.

That is far beyond old and dried out.
Dry rotted and crumbly comes to mind.
Do tell us about the dial gear.

Hi there,
As far as I could see that when I put on the dial in I should have taken the cover off the back of the machine and put the clip on from that side. It’s been awhile since I worked on the machine,so I kind of forgot that. Once I put the clip on properly it worked fine for about a few minutes,by then the damage was done.

Well that explains it!
Yes the back access is much easier!!!
I just did not understand why the dial would be removed to replace the belt.
