Recently my computer has been acting strangely. Especially when I am away for an hour or two and return and awaken it from hibernation. It takes forever to wake up and is sluggish in general. I have this week noticed script unresponsive messages that included "Chrome" in the description/name/whatever.

I have since deleted Chrome from my computer.

All of a sudden my computer is acting more normal and these script messages are gone.

In hindsight I believe strange happenings(unresponsive action) started after I downloaded Chrome.

Cause/effect? Maybe, but it does seem logical.

Perhaps I got an infected copy. Nothing revealed that however(Malware/avg...).

Just a heads up re my 'experience'.

P.S. My suspicion is that Chrome installation put something in my startup programs that was causing all the interference.

Recently I have had a message pop-up at the top of my screen saying "Chrome is using the camera". I have seen this a couple of times and my wife has had it show up on her computer too. I covered my laptop camera lens a long time ago as a joke saying I didn't want big brother watching. Now it appears Big Brother is actually trying to watch.

I have Chrome installed and don't see any slow down. However when ever I run Chrome (not very often) and when my anti-virus program (ESET NOD32) does a scan it finds a Potentially Unwanted Program (PUP) in a Chrome directory. ESET NOD32 quarentines it and I go in and delete it. It doesn't seem to cause any problems but I think I will delete Chrome since I don't really use it.

I have not seen any issues with Chrome. I don't use it a lot but since I started using the SO and wanting to look at .svg files I do use it for that. Chrome seems to be one of the better .svg viewers.

I abandoned Chrome months ago because of unpredictable behavior; however, Firefox has been misbehaving well lately. But, at the same time Windows 10 is going through some problem riddled upgrades at the same time (since October). It is very difficult (maybe impossible) to know what is causing what.

Since I uninstalled Chrome my computer acts like it was new and all those script delaying messages have disappeared and waking up from sleep mode is almost instantaneous(I misspoke earlier and mentioned waking up from hibernation).

All this is very surprising to me. I am wary of anything Google after this!

I was blaming Firefox for all that.

I have Linux on my computer so my experiences aren't the same. I use Firefox and it is extemely fast. It takes about 1 second to open and run. I also have Chrome installed but I don't use it because Firefox works so well for me. Having Chrome installed has not slowed the computer at all and it doesn't give me any script or any other kind of messages when I have used Chrome.

I suspect that some of those issues are related to Windows and their flaky updates that come along so often.

My Son has the same computer that I have. His runs Windows 7 on his while mine has Linux. Windows 7 is painfully slow compared to the Linux installation. He tried Windows 10, and it was slower yet so he went back to 7.

In the past, I never turned my computer off unless necessary. When I was not using it, I turned the displays off.

A short time back, life's activities significantly reduced the amount of time I spend at the computer. When that happened I began turning my computer off. I do mean off - not to SLEEP.

Thanks JPG. I just tried SLEEP mode. No more waiting for a Boot (though my Boot time with this new computer is minimal), coming out of Sleep is nearly instantaneous..

Having a lap top, I merely put it to sleep by closing the 'lid' and waking it up by raising the lid.

My powering off has mostly been to reboot when it became so unresponsive that it was either that or get a shot gun. I have been quite frustrated with it lately. Once I resumed using it it 'seemed' to become more 'normal'. However it was not up to par IMO.

I am enjoying it's current functioning more normally with much pleasure.

I do hope it keeps doing so. Videos have not been working well either but now seem back to normal.

One other thing I noticed was that once µsoft prepped for an upgrade almost everything on the internet went into snail mode until it was 'upgraded'.

Too many things happening without my knowledge or control. I miss DOS and updates by floppy only and when I decide to do it.

No one else seems to relate this experience so I surmise I got a bad copy of Chrome.

If you are running Windows 10 you might put Windows close to the top of your suspect list. Beginning with the October update, Microsoft has experienced a rash of problems. Right now that seems to have settled down.
