The scoop

In the interest of using up all the small scraps in the shop I’m continuing to turn utinsel handles. The ice cream scoop from Woodcraft seems to be something everyone really likes so I am trying to keep one on hand. They make nice gifts for for anyone visiting the shop.

I use Howard’s Butcher Block Conditioner on any wood utinsels or wood that will come in contact with food. It’s also great for any wooden tool handles such as axes, shovels and shop tools like lathe chisel handles. You can get it at HD, Lowe’s or on Amazon. It’s basically mineral oil and carnuba wax.

And hand wash! No dish washer. It doesn't need that.

Your great work inspired me, I just ordered a kit. I haven't used my lathe in many a year so this should be interesting

Love the scoop. I also like your dust collection hose support for the lathe. Got any more pictures of it?

Did you tap the hole or use a type of glue?

I had one last scoop left so I turned it today. The bubinga scraps were pretty small so the maple center piece was a little too large.

Would concur 100% on the scoop handle and the dust collector arrangement.
Veritas makes a magnetic inlet that kind of came with the the old Delta dust collector we picked up at a yard sale last year. It just snaps right onto the lathe and it sure grabs a lot of shavings.
Even better, it virtually eliminates the dust when sanding.
Your setup is even nicer though. Looks like you can pull that right in tight to the work if you want.
May I ask if you are happy with the Shopsmith as a lathe?
