Some beauty in the night ice storm

Yes we can now add an ice storm to this winters blues. It hasn't been going long so I may go back out later and see if I can get more pictures if they look more interesting.
Just a couple of notes, this is shot at f3.5 for 6 seconds and of course with a tripod and cable release. This was my first guess at how long, and I think it came out the best. Went as long as 15 seconds and as short as 1/30 but I didn't expect much in either of those extremes.
This is the "northern lights" in front of our house, I posted a video of it sometime back. I'd like to go out front and get some pictures but I also sort of like to live and not have any broken bones so........

ITWE, I would go out and raise the windshield wipers off the windshield before they get completely buried in ice. If however you do not intend to go anywhere until it all thaws, nevermind.
Nice 'start' creating iceland!
When you get another half inch buildup, things get interesting.
P.S. Beware there are some here that think taking pix at night is only for fools!

I'm not much of a photographer, but some of my favorite pictures have been using long exposures at night.

Now pray tell, just where did you get this tidbit of information? Who says it is for fools?

Ed,
Photo creativity is a great thing. With digital cameras now we have more options and no film processing costs. So you keep taking all the pictures you want. The worst thing that will happen is you will end up erasing some. Sorry JPG, just an opinion from the other view.

Last year(or the previous year) I posted a night pix of the tree across the street after a snowfall.
Maybe not called 'a fool', but saying I needed help was mentioned.

Well the ice storm was a dud here, places farther north got the brunt of it. It came late, changed to heavier rain and got out of here earlier then expected. By the time morning came around a lot of it was already melting and by 10:00 it was all gone.
Another chance tonight but later, not sure I'll get up to check on it and I don't have any place I have to be so it just finding time to take my walk sometime during the day.
I never put my wipers up, I see others do that but our van has the heater wires in that area of the windshield so turning them on frees up that area pretty fast. Also heater in the side view mirror so they clear up pretty fast too. Especially fast when it just around freezing outside.
