I bought a shopsmith mark v 510 a little over a year ago and after a deployment, workups and a whole mess of things i finally got to start getting everything cleaned up. Now the oops part. I can't put it back together. I started watching videos on YouTube and learned how to take the head stock apart and and inspect everything. It didn't say how to put it back together though. Like how many turns do you do on the quill handle before reinstalling the quill or how do you put the speed control assembly back together so the rpms are were they should be? I need some serious help so i can get this back up and running before i deploy again later this year.

The manual has instructions for setting up the headstock. Look for high speed adjustment. That gets the speed control back right and the speed set to match what it should be.
The quill should be pretty much self explanatory with a little mechanical aptitude. You want the spring tight enough to pull the quill back when released. When I did it, it took me a couple of tries to get it like I wanted it.
Hopefully you got a book with the tool. If you have the book, read it and follow the instructions in it. If you don't have the book, parts of it are available as pdf downloads, and some of the books are still available for purchase from Shopsmith.
And, remember rule #1. Don't take anything apart that you don't know how to put back together.

Assuming the quill return spring has not gotten disconnected from the quill feed shaft, 4 turns is a good starting point for tension as the quill is placed back into the headstock bore.

I am completely out conscious of the fact that you shouldn't take anything apart that you don't know how to put together, the problem being is I'm in the Navy and I go out for one to three weeks to a month at a time. There are little parts, the parts that make the difference that I cannot remember how to put together I'm trying to re outfit my headstock unit but am unable to find any information on how to put it back together. I can find everything on how to tear it down but like I said it's the little things that I can't figure out how to do.

Post pix of them parts and we may be able to help. Without more details we cannot.

If you go to the post in Maintenance and Repair on Large Format Drawings and follow the red link My Google Drive, you will find headstock drawings that I redid that are very large format allowing you to zoom in.

I also changed the axis orientation so the exploded parts stack in line for assembly. You still need the adjustments and rebuild discussions to reassemble the quill return shaft and spring assembly, the belts, tensions, speed dial assembly etc.

With regard to the speed dial, on the main page of that post before you get into My Google Drive there is a Headstock Improvement Kit document from my late friend and mentor Bill Mayo that is excellent on the Speed Dial.

For what it’s worth, after you assemble it, there’s documents for My Method to the Alignment Process and What can a Single Crosscut Tell You that can help you get back to making sawdust with accurate cuts. Not the only way, but it helps some folks.
