Mark 7 display problem

Post by Wes7373 »

Just picked up a used Mark 7. Works great, except I noticed yesterday the display appeared to be failing. Parts of it work, parts of it don't. Not sure where to start with this:

Congrats on the purchase and sorry to hear about the display problems. The PowerPro uses an LCD (liquid crystal display) and unfortunately with time and temperature the liquid can drain out of some of the segments/pixels. It is also possible that the display driver (electronics) that power the display are having problems. I don't know of any hacks/tips to make the "bad" LCD segments operable again, but maybe someone else on the forum does. To help them, does the behavior change any if you lightly press with your finger on the display? The reason that I ask is there is usually a sandwich of LCD display, elastomer, outer glass, etc. Sometimes there can be a problem with one and light pressure can make the LCD segment work again. If all else fails, I do believe that you can contact Shopsmith and get just the LCD display/control module to replace. I believe another thread on this forum talked about this, but I think the price was as much as $500.
