500 Fence Problems

I am trying to get my Mark V 500 setup for using as a tablesaw and have encountered a problem with the fence. My system was missing parts when I got it and I purchased a replacement fence on Ebay. The fence is an older style with the single knob on the back with a hook on the front, but it appears as though the front hook sits about a quarter inch away from the back of the table. I have not been able to find any info on tightening the fence to the table. Any help would be appreciated.

Tightening the knob should lock the far side of the fence to the table if everything is working.

'Front' is where the operator resides and where the front rail exists.

The front end of the fence has a single knob.

The front end of the fence rests on/over the front rail. There is a movable 'pawl' that goes between the rail and the front edge of the table.

The single knob sequentially does two things. When tightened(rotated clockwise), the knob first causes the pawl to press against the back edge of the rail. Additional rotation of the knob causes the 'hook' to close in on the back table edge and clamp.

Looking it over it appears the square nut is frozen to the rod. I put some penetrant oil on it so hopefully that frees it up, if not I am not sure how I will get it off.
