So through out the years I have been asked many times what finish should be used and why ,

I just stumbled across a website that explains enough to get most folks where they need to be .

Instead of trying to explain it all I will post the link , it does a good job of explaining what to use and the reasons why .

Good information there about the finishes, but one thing I disagree with is his choice of brushes. I use a lot of urethane to finish my projects, and have found that I get a much higher shine without brush marks if I use foam brushes instead of bristle brushes.
This finish was done with foam brush. I can't get as good a finish if I use bristle brushes.

I have used the foam brushes but they don't hold up for me , I switched to the little throw away wooden brushes , or just spray ,
every now and then they lose a bristle . one thing in the article I thought should have mentioned is how to determine what the old finish was , I have had reactions with finishes , some of the old stuff may have been oil base and wood didnt want to accept the new finish .
