Because many people are curious and will click on anything. The majority of people here are not that way and know the difference but the spammers don't know that. They spew out their stuff to anywhere they can with hopes of catching someone.

It is just the same as the phone scams. Someone calls you from the IRS and says there is a warrant for your arrest if you don't immediately pay a fine or back taxes. Then they want payment by some gift card or bitcoin. Would you fall for that? I don't know why but enough people fall for it so that the scammers keep it up.

While I am typing this our latest spammer BOT ( Nicliexia ) just spewed out again with huge post. Nobody types that in. I also had an unknown phone number call me. Didn't answer it. I use a Bluetooth ear piece that say answer or ignore. All I have to do is say ignore. Don't even have to pick up the phone. If it is someone in my call list the ear piece tells me who it is.

Here is our newest member janiedb69. "He" just posted a porn site SPAM in this thread.

I’m by no means an expert on this, Dusty. But as I understand it, a website’s search-engine ranking is influenced by how many links there are to it on other websites. The more links, the the higher the ranking. The higher the ranking, the closer to the top of the list you get on Google search results, for example. As long as the search-engine bots see the links, it may not matter if anyone ever clicks them.

There’s a whole industry out there selling search-engine optimization (SEO) services. As far as I know, most of them are ethical. But I suspect that unscrupulous SEO firms place this sort of spam just to increase their clients’s search-engine rankings. And probably outsource a lot of the actual spamming to third-world countries, to get it done at the lowest cost.

The registered Bots (Bing [Bot], Google [Bot], Majestic-12 [Bot],), report new content, which would presumably include new member information, back to their respective search engines.

Out of curiosity I did a google search on "shopsmith forum member profile JPG" and the top result listing is shown below.
So, yes the Bots do check the User Profiles.

It has been suggested that this thread be deleted. That may be of some help (I just don't know) but thinking along those lines...I shall NOT post to this thread after this.

I've learned more than I needed to know.
