Hello, My name is Kirk,

I bought a 1982 Shopsmith Mark V 500 this April (2019) for $200.00. It came with a band saw, 4” jointer, belt sander, discs sander, drum sander, a dado set, a molder head and few molding knifes, routing bits, a hardwood miter gauge extension, 5 lathe chisels, 3 3/4” faceplate, 3 lathe centers, shopsmith center finder, self study course binder, and a few non- shopsmith tools. Was missing the upper saw guard, power tool woodworking textbook, and the tool rest for the lathe.

I wanted one since I was in High school ( 88-92 ). During one of the summer breaks I help a fellow move from Pleasant Mount, PA over to just below Deposit, NY , he had a Mark V ??? . He was sell log cabin kits. Don’t remember how I got the job. I believe shortly after see his Mark V I saw the ad for them in the Popular Mechanic magazine, I sent for a brochure and still have it.

I had requested a new brochure this year after buying my Mark V 500.

I have also Bought a Mark V 520 table system in pieces, a extra 510 saw table, a shopsmith support table 510, a Ringmaster 2, a Dial Indicator Gauge, a flex shaft with a grinding wheel, a metal lathe cutter, a Conical sanding disc, a planer / jointer knife sharpener, and a 2 bearing quill I put in on 8/11/19 from eBay.

Bought the six disc Shopsmith Mark V video encyclopedia . I’ve also order the Premium Caster Upgrade, and the Shopsmith help kit with Journals DVD for my shopsmith.

I had wood shop, power shop, one year of metal shop, and a year of drafting in high school not sure what I all remember a what I’ve forgotten.
For the last six years I’ve been slow remodeling the house trailer we live in. Well that’s enough for now.

Welcome aboard. Now, start making sawdust and see what you have and if it needs any TLC to improve it.
If the Shopsmith was properly cared for, it should have lots of woodworking left in it and you find that out by using it.

Welcome to the forum. Here you can find an almost endless supply of information about the Shopsmith and it's related tools. You said when you purchased the Mark V it was missing the upper saw guard, power tool woodworking textbook, and the tool rest for the lathe. Since you bought the 520 table and pro-fence system for it hopefully you received the Upper and Lower Blade Guards for it. The tool rest is easy to replace, if you have not done so already. Although the Arm and post vary by Shopsmith Model any Tool Rest from a Mark 5 going back to the 1954 Greenie through today will work. Even the Tool Rest from a Model 10E or 10ER will work. The main difference between the early Tool Rest and today's is the machined indent ring on the Tool Rest's post where the set screw on the arm contacts. The picture below is a Lathe Tool Rest from an early Model 10ER.
If you haven't picked up one yet the book Power Tool Woodworking for Everyone is available for free, in digital format, here on the Shopsmith website. Check it out as it has a lot of good information on using the Shopsmith Tool. The 4th edition has a mix of the 500 and 510 model table systems being used. Earlier editions have only the 500 table system except the 1st edition which was for the Model 10E and 10ER.

I did get both 520 saw guards. I haven’t got the tool rest yet because they are a dime a dozen on eBay.
I didn’t know about the free digital download and I have not pick up a textbook yet. However I still prefer to have a hard copy of the textbook.

Since you have pretty much a Mark V 520 I would recommend getting a copy of the 4th edition of Power Tool Woodworking For Everyone. It is the only edition showing the larger table system of the Mark V 510 although earlier editions, except the 1st, would be helpful too. You can get a new one from SS or a used one online from book sellers. I have found some editions for less than $5.00. Did you get manuals for your Mark V? It has only the basics from the full manual but it is a start. Remember only the table and fence systems change between the Mark V 500, 510 & 520. All other parts, the headstock, the bench & base and the miter (with or without the "T" track washer), are the same. All the Summary Manuals can be found at the bottom of the service parts page for the Mark V at the link below.

Yes Russ, there a paper like book that say (Shopsmith Mark V Owner’s Manual price $1.50) and a lite blue green color. I still going to order one for a 520 because I did upgrade my table system.

I have all ready use the second like to add to my order of the Premium Caster upgrade and the Shopsmith Help Kit w/ Journals DVD. I add two new Carriage Stop Ring. But it looks like I going to have to call again because I still have got a order confirmation email of the orders again.

I did get a newer Miter w/ the “T” track washer too go w/ the 520 table.
