Re: A new owner of a shopsmith
So, where'd you find that cool metal-turning carriage for the Shopsmith? Not to mention an adapter for a metal lathe chuck (usually 1.5" x 8 TPI or so...)?

Re: A new owner of a shopsmith
I found it on eBay, it fits in the 500 carriage. Now that I bought the double tilt base bench I’m thinking of switching my ‘82 back to a 500, length it out and leaving it just a lathe. I haven’t decided if I’m going to leave my second 520 carriage on it as well or put it on the other side of the headstock on the double tilt.Tyer wrote:So, where'd you find that cool metal-turning carriage for the Shopsmith? Re: A new owner of a shopsmith
Today I got a few things from Shopsmith. I got the Drillpress lasers, nova 10 in 1 workshop gauge, a lathe live center, a grey shopsmith t-shirt and baseball cap.

Ok and this showed up today, it was suppose tomorrow. I now can add a Speed Reducer too my collection. Those that have speed reducer, I tried turning this with hands and could not, is that normal or should I expect problems? I can turn my speed increaser show I thought I should this as well.

Re: A new owner of a shopsmith
I was able - barely - to turn the output shaft of my unused speed reducer bare-handed; once I got on it with a Crescent wrench on the flat, it turned stiffly, but smoothly enough. I rather expected this, because of the 1:7 speed increase going from the output to the input. I could reach inside the headstock end and turn the coupling spline fairly easily.
I like the hat...

Re: A new owner of a shopsmith
I was going to bye the power pro headstock for my double tilt bench. I stop a the bank took the cash out of my savings that morning on the way to work. Stop for gas and grab something for breakfast, then off to load two tractor trailers of hay. On the way home stop to get something to eat and I can’t find my wallet (checkbook) !!!! I loss the money. A week later I get an envelope in the mail with my wallet in it. My driver license, debit cards, and checks are there, No cash.
I had set up my savings account in one bank and checking account in another so it would be easy for me too transfer cash to my checking. This was so I would save money for better things like the power pro headstock, to build a shop, and a three or four car garage.
Now that’s enough of that sad story.
So I bought a C headstock for now. 2 more floating tables (510) with 4 connector tubes and 2 telescoping legs. I will use 2 sets of 520 rails from the 510 to 520 table upgrade I have. I also bought a set of 5ft connector tubes now with another set order from Shopsmith which is on back order.
There’s a Biscuit Jointer, a 6” dado set, dado insert, molder head with 3 set of knives, 2 universal arbor, a molder insert, 5 red feather boards 1 a fence, 2 are quill, 2 mitre slots., 2 red push blocks, a carbide saw blade with 520 arbor, another saw guard set, a saw depth gauge, a wooden mallet, mortise attachment, mortise hold down, 3 mortise bits, 7 tubes of jigsaw blade, a power coupler, outside calipers, inside calipers, grinding wheel arbor, 2 different router shields, drum sander fence with 4 drum sanders and sleeves, I’m waiting on a shopsmith 48” metal rule, a 24” miter gauge extension, and two shopsmith 8” wooden woodworking clamps.
One of the fellow sent an auxiliary spine guard something I haven’t seen before. I bought the C headstock an a few other things from him. I like it enough that I want to pick up another for ‘82 headstock & the future power pro.
My order from Shopsmith are a set of 5ft connector tubes, a 520 manual textbook and self study course, a jigsaw manual, jointer auxiliary fence with feather boards & 520 rip fence kit, M7 rip fence extension, non-cut through riving knife, 6” engineering square, 4 stack feather boards, new speed & wood charts.
