Is there a Shopsmith mandrel for turning pens? I saw one on a YouTube video, but can't find it on the Shopsmith site. If there is, please give me a link., If there isn't, is Penn State the best one to get?

You might be able to save a few $ if you already have the shopsmith 1/4" router chuck. You can just buy the mandrel shaft (about $7 at woodcraft) and use the router chuck for the drive. That is what I do.

If you happen to have the notion to buy a Lathe Pen Mandrel Saver you can then just buy drill rod and have a really nice set up. If you don't go this route then make sure you get a decent live center for the tail stock end.

Which Mandrel saver did you get, when I spoke to them, they said the Mandrel saver would not work with Shop Smith?
