hey what's going on so I've decided im only using this thing as a lathe and as a drill press .

problem is I ordered a belt but its the wrong size

I guess my main question is
looking at the accessories it looks like nothing is recommended for use with the ER

is that because it wont work ? seems to me like they would work ,
like the lathe duplicator for example

the speed adjuster pulley system is the other one im really interested in

didn't they use to advertise these things as backwards compatible back in the day?

lastly. .. is belt dressing recommended on a system like this?

This is a legal issue. The current company is not the same company that made the Model 10. So they don't say today's parts/accessories will work. However many of them will work. Many things are backwards compatible. The bigest thing is the 5/8" tapered spindle in the head stock. That has not changed to this day since the fitst model 10 was built in 1947. So anything that fits on a SS spindle today will fit on your Model 10. You need the adapters for the current Special Purpose Tools (SPT, band saw, belt sander, etc.). There are original adapters (rare) or after market ones from MKCTools.

I find no manuals on the online archive.....

Click on the link to Everett's Google drive and you will find everything you need to know about the Model 10. Again, the current Shopsmith company does not support the Model 10 because they did not make it. You will not find any technical info on the SS site about the Model 10.

Maybe a little clarification on what Shopsmith tool you have will help. Your ER is actually a Model 10ER but for some reason when they changed the Model designation from 10E to 10ER the Serial Number/Logo Plate was only changed to ER. I believe that may have happened because Magna Engineering Corporation did not want to redesign the Serial Number/Logo Plate and 10ER would not fit in the space that 10E occupied. There is no documentation that has the Shopsmith as only a Model ER which is why you cannot find it in any searches. If you look in the Maintenance and Repair section for Shopsmith Large Format Drawings, Illustrations and More by Everett Davis as mentioned before you will find a wealth of information on the Shopsmith tools. Some are directly linked there and others are on “My Google Drive” with documents too large to be directly linked. Everett has become our Shopsmith historian by saving and restoring manuals and other documents. Check out the Model 10ER restored manual.

As John said before just about any accessory or arbor that attaches to the Quill or 5/8" Spindle of any Shopsmith Model 10 or Mark series tool made will fit your Shopsmith. As Magna Engineering transitioned from making the Model 10ER to the Mark 5 in 1954 many are compatible on both Shopsmith Tools. Since you are looking at using it for lathe work here is a good example of what I mean. Shopsmith legal disclaimer - current arbors and attachments are for use on Mark V and Mark 7 machines and not intended for use on previous models. That being said the current Lathe Drive Center part number 505715 will work just as well as the original Lathe Drive Center part number 102-34X on a Model 10E or the new Mark 7. The only change made to this part over the years, besides the part numbers changing, was the set screw changed from a 1/8” to a 5/32“Allen wrench size in late 1953 and the black protective coating was added starting in 1964. I have one of the original Model 10E's made in 1947 and a Mark 7 (upgraded from a Mark V 520) and can use the same lathe drive on either Shopsmith Tool be it from 1947 or purchased today.
