dodecagon--12 sided box

so my clubs makes boxes for kids with cancer:: the program is called Beads of Courage:
we make turned boxes and flat wood boxes.

I had an idea for one out of a 12 sided box that would be incase in plexiglass "windows".

How would I figure out the angle of each side to cut, in order to glue together?

15 degrees. It is the number of sides times two ( 24 in this case) and divides into 360.

If I'm seeing it right in my mind, the outside angles need to add up to 360 degrees, so 12 sides divided into 360 equals 30. Each 30 degree angle is made from two matching pieces so each piece would be 15 degrees to add up to 30.
Try it with a few pieces of scrap wood and see if the picture in my mind is right or wrong.

LoL. I just had to cut some dodecagons. Luckily I had one that I copied. But before I did that, I went to the source (Wikipedia). The internal angles are 30. That means that the outside angles are 150.

15 degrees is the cut you make on each piece. 😎

Make the math easy. For any number of sides that will join together to form a circle the formula is; A=(180/N) where A is the angle of the cut required and N is number of sides. So A equals 180 divided by twelve equals 15 degrees. No fuss no muss. The American Association of Woodturners website has tutorials for segmented turning that describes this and other techniques.
