I was just trying to work out how to attach my 36mm festool hose to the shopsmith saw/sanding disk lower guard.

Pulling out my box of fittings I came up with something but perhaps there is a better way?

Starting at the hose:
I do have a couple of other ways but all of them take way to many parts.

Your Shopsmith hose will plug right in to the Festool vac. Is there a reason you don't want to use it?

I have a dust deputy that sets on top of the ct26 and the attachment doesn't work well with stock hoses. The only way to get them to stay on is to use a connector or tape.

I want to use the festool hose for any festools and for my SO to keep the anti-static system working. I seem to get a lot of static in my shop during the winter and last year it was effecting my SO. It didn't wreck anything but the SO would need to reboot if and when it was effected, not a good thing.

So it would be best for me to just leave the festool hose on the dust deputy and do the size swap on the far end. I don't do much work requiring the shopsmith lower guard this time of year but have a sanding project coming up and was thinking it might be a good time to get something figured out.

I also like to have my blue tooth button on the hose near where I'm working, ideally leaving it on the end of the festool hose.

I have yet to try the setup I have put together but it seems to fit tightly, and I think it will work, just wishing it was a bit simpler.

Do you have a 3D printer? If so, there at least a couple of projects on Thingiverse where a person can design, save, and print based on easy parameters input in a piece of code for OpenSCAD. I used it to print a short 2.5" to 2.5" M to F adapter that stays in my CNCs dust boot, making it far easier to attach and remove my dust hose.

No 3D printer.......... I'm sure they would be fun but I can't see me getting one since I have no where to put it.

You don’t really have to have your own 3D printer. There’s tons of 3D printing services out there (often including local libraries) to which you can upload your 3D file. A lack of 3D modeling skills is usually the main obstacle, but you already have those.

Besides, most consumer-grade 3D printers need to be in a relatively dust-free, climate-controlled environment. When I got mine, I just placed an old end table near my computer desk, set the printer on top, and stored supplies underneath. So the footprint is really quite small, and my total investment in the printer is about $500, including a couple of modest upgrades.

Is the W2046 2 1/2" Hose Adapter fitting needed because the 2 1/2" union fitting won't fit over the outside dust port on the Shopsmith saw guard? Just wondering if you could do it with one less fitting and attach to outside rather than inside of the saw guard dust port. I am fortunate to have a Rockler here locally, so I tend to try to find reducers there when I need them now. In the past, I have wasted too many trips to Home Depot in search of these fittings. Too often they don't have the size that I need or I take the reducer home and find that the dust port that I am trying to mate to is a few hairs too tight or too loose...maybe my Home Depot just has a limited selection. Glad you found a combination of HD fittings that work.

In looking at the pics of the Dust Deputy, it looks like it is designed for a dust hose to fit over the outside of the input port and is possibly tapered. That is the one good thing about the ClearVue CV06 Mini cyclone - the inlet port fits over a standard 2 1/2" dust collector hose fitting. It is a snug fit, but you slide the hose in and it stays. I know this doesn't help for mating to the Festool, but if you want a Franken-cyclone, get a CV06 cyclone and attach it to the dust bin on top of the Festool dust deputy setup. Probably not worth the expense though just to have a well behaved dust port on the cyclone inlet...

So I used my connections and the CT26 while sanding some wood blocks to size and the conical disk to make them nice on all six sides. This was the best dust collection I have ever had with the shopsmith! Even the dust on the down side of the disk near the lower guard was being sucked in!

Anyway the Oneida has a tapered connection and the festool hose fits nicely on it and because it is a softer plastic it conforms and holds well.
This is what that end looks like. Also important for making sure the anti-static connections are made by contact.

The other Oneida I use a plumbing connection to keep the hoses on, but it needs tools to take on and off which is less desirable.
I think somewhere I have this attachment that you cut steps to get one end to fit. If I find that I'll give that at try too.
