Griping about W10 AGAIN!

Well the Redmond gurus have messed my day(s) up again.

I like to place shortcut icons etc. at random locations on the desktop(i.e. place them where it is convenient for me to locate later). Stuff that IMHO belong together are located together. They are NOT in rows and columns like an army on parade. I even like to overlap them to save space with sufficient non overlapping parts to make them accessible individually.

I also like to have the task bar on the right edge of the screen. It is wider since I also like the stuff normally on the right end(when located on the bottom of the screen) of the taskbar to be two wide when located near the bottom(when located at the right edge).

Well a while back an update made it essentially impossible to locate icons overlapping. (I think that has been 'fixed') Also apparently a 'feature' of W10 is that if one moves a folder shortcut icon over second folder shortcut icon It copies the first shortcut into the second folder.

Well NOW when the taskbar 'covers' any icons, those icons are scattered onto separated locations on gthe desktop. I will add screen shots:

Note that the icons which are 'covered' by the task bar are relocated regardless of where it is located.

Well I apparently have 'discovered' a bug between scnhunt and w10. The screenshot with the task bar at the bottom only captures the task bar!

So we need to point out stuff that is 'under' the right edge task bar but is relocated when the task bar is 'there'.

There are a few "JPG TAX 20xx" icons scattered on the desktop. They were placed in the area at the right edge by me. When the task bar is moved to the right edge those icons are relocated willy nilly.

I do NOT like thiss new feature! :( If someone knows how to shut off w10 from messing with locations of icons on the desktop, please enlighten me.

You've probably already done this, but the general way of keeping icons from moving is to right-click on the desktop, select "view" and uncheck the two boxes, "autoarrange icons" and "align icons to grid". Then in that same right-click menu, go to "personalize", click on "themes" and select "desktop icon settings". Uncheck "allow themes to change desktop icons". Click "apply".

No, I did not know about those 'details'.

I created this thread in the hope someone would tell me where to specify stuff like that.

Thank You for that response. I will go there and do that and will report back whether it makes me less bit . .. ahh er gripey. :)

Went there and all that stuff was already as you suggested. However in an attempt to turn auto arrange 'off' I clicked and now the icons are marching in unison. :( :( :(
