I am finishing up a storage rack that I am going to use to hold my special purpose tools. It started out life as a rolling metal storage rack 4’ by 18” by 6’. I have 9 tools on it including my compound sliding miter saw and a independent router that mounts on the end of my SS. I may do some more fine tuning as I figure out how to store smaller stuff like saw blades, arbors etc. Feel to offer suggestions for improvement.

That looks like a good way to store tools and have them mobile for ease of use. For the smaller parts, look into getting or building something with small drawers and drawer dividers. I find that for me, it makes the small items more easily available when you want something.

Looks good to me. Only concern I have is how the planer is mounted. Also, are those zip ties holding the wood member the planer is attached on to the storage rack? Hanging the planer vertically is a novel solution, but just make sure it is securely attached. I wouldn't want the planer to fall to the floor (looks to be perched a little precariously in the picture, but perhaps it is more secure than it seems). It is one expensive tool to replace...

Thanks guys!

I was debating if I should move it lower but kept it at that level so it can be easily be lifted off the rack and on to the SS. Yeah the way it looks from the picture doesn’t look too secure but it is actually mounted on steel hooks and brackets with 3/8” grade 8 bolts. The board with the zip ties is to keep the planer from resting on the band saw.

I’ll look into small baskets for some of the little parts so I can keep track of them.

I think I going to follow in your footsteps on this. It will be a little quicker for now. Thanks for sharing.

I love those racks. We used them at work which is where I learned about them so it was only a matter of time before I started buying them for all sorts of storage.

Of late I have been working on putting hand tools and other odds and ends on them. Some of that information can be found here:

I like the idea of the dishwasher baskets and will have to keep eye out for them.

Also I am going upload a couple of pictures of the router I mount on the SS. There are times when I had a bandsaw on the shorty, table saw on the big one with the router on the end.

Looks good overall, but I'd put some drawers too to organize stuff better. And maybe even create a 'wall' of sorts for tools to not fall, provide some extra stability.
