10ER and AO Smith 1/2hp bearings

Hi all, I'm in the process of restoring my grandfather's 10ER (SN# 33804) and I'm at the stage where I'm replacing all the bearings. I've read through a bunch of threads here and looked through the google drive pdfs to get the part numbers and specs (ABEC1) that are needed.

I called A&W Bearings as recommended in a few threads and the person I talked to said Timkin does not make the C1 tolerance bearing anymore. Does anyone have a suggestion for where to get maybe NOS bearings or a suitable replacement? Does anyone have experience with the bearings HogWinslow offers?

Secondly, I'm going to replace the bearings in the AO Smith 1/2hp motor I have which are marked "Hoover 77203". Any suggestions on replacements for these? I've read of NTN 6203LL or 6203ZZ or MRC 203SFF. Any preference here?

Ok, I found a super helpful post from Everett (https://tinyurl.com/vfd7zvr) that linked a source to the 202KLL3 and it appears they're in stock. That post links to Motion Industries and they have the 205KLL2 also, although on backorder.

My new question is regarding the shield/seal. Everett's bearing document specifies metal shield for 205KLL2 and rubber for 202KLL3. I don't see this mentioned at Motion, are there metal/rubber versions of both and how would I specify this?

I have used the headstock (Drive Sleeve and Quill) bearings that are sold by hogwinslow1960 in most of the Model 10's I have restored. He is currently selling the NTN Bearings. Although not the OEM bearings they work very smooth and I feel are a great alternative for the OEM sets. They cost less than the OEM bearings if you can even get them. To date I have restored 19 Model 10's and I try to use original parts whenever possible but this is one item I have not on almost all the restorations. I have a 10E and a 10ER being restored and already have the NTN bearings for them. I have also used his Drive Sleeve and Quill bearings on Mark 5's I have restored.

As for the A. O. Smith 1/2 HP motor I buy the replacement bearings for those locally. The same is true for the ones with the A. O. Smith 3/4 HP motors I have.

If you have a Speed Changer and are thinking of replacing the Oilite Bearings (shown below) for it, hogwinslow1960 has those also and is the only one I know currently selling new replacements for the Speed Changer. If the flange thickness is worn down it is time to replace them. Also replace if loose on the shaft, shows other wear or is damaged.

I had one set that I replaced that the flange was almost completely worn away. It's performance was greatly improved by replacing the Oilite Bearings.

Russ, thanks a lot! That definitely gives me confidence that I won't be missing out on much by going with hogwinslow's bearings and saving quite a bit of money and headache with ordering from different suppliers and worrying about what I receive.

I do have the speed changer* but haven't disassembled it yet so I don't know the state of the bearings (even though it seems pretty smooth). I'll probably order them anyway.

Not a bad idea since the Oilite Bearings in the Speed Changer do wear over time. Keeping them clean and "oiled" will reduce the wear and they will last a long, long time. If they are "dry" against the shaft end on the arm and/or the knob that holds it on they will wear faster.

MC master sells oil bronze bushings.
They might have right size.

The Magna bushings are not standard. That is why Hogwinslow and Skip Campbell have been buying oversize bushings and machining them to the Magna size.

The Magna bushings are not standard. That is why Hogwinslow and Skip Campbell have been buying oversize bushings and machining them to the Magna size.
A problem that the scroll saw arm bushings share.
