Seems like I have a problem but don't know the how or why to the answers. Seems like when I drilling on the lathe with a chuck installed on the headstock and a MT2 drill chuck in the tailstock that there is some flex of upward movement. Not bad drilling pen blanks but today I was drilling the cap for a pepper grinder and it came out not centered. My alignment of tail to head is dead nuts on. It just seems with more pressure on the quill it flexes uo. The tailstock is in TIGHT, drill length is maybe 6", but over 5" to 6" drill hole length it not straight. My machine is 1984. The quill has some backlash in the gears, but that shouldn't effect the drilling.

Any ideas?

Are the tube extenders special or just something like conduit?

I don't know, but whatever you have that is a close fit, would be worth a try.

I don't know, but whatever you have that is a close fit, would be worth a try.

The table tubes fit into the legs of the tailstock. I use two short table tubes whenever I need to do this..
