My mid 80's 510 has a replacement lower blade guard, and a replacement arbor, all genuine ShopSmith.

The location of the fitment on the lower blade guard, for the upper blade guard and riving knife, is seriously misaligned to the blade. I suspect that the distance on the arbor from the side of the blade, to the shoulder of the arbor, may have been changed over the years; resulting in the misalignment.

Has anyone added a washer, or shim, between the shoulder on the quill and the shoulder on the arbor, to have the effect of lengthening the distance from the arbor's shoulder to the side of the blade. This would allow the arbor to be seated firmly against the shoulder on the quill and would resolve having to manually realign every time I change a blade.

If so, what thickness of shim was used?

You do know that the lower saw guard is adjustable, right.

It sounds like you have a model 500 arbor and you need a model 510 arbor. The MK5/V model 500 arbor is shorter than the MKV model 510 arbor. The 510 arbor is longer because the table is larger.

Thanks for the assistance, here is a photo of the alignment problem. This is taken with the guard and arbor fully seated.

The 510 lower saw guard has an adjustment screw to line up the riving knife with the blade. If the screw is missing or threaded all the way in it could cause this issue. The adjustment is a screw located on the lower part of the collar that goes around the quill.
