I guess price depends on whatever the seller and buyer can agree on. In some parts of the country, you can't buy a cheap Shopsmith. In other areas there seems to be a glut of them so they go cheap.

Also, if the buyer wants it just because it exists and doesn't use it for doing work, then it isn't worth as much as someone who will use it hard and make it productive.

There are several members of this forum who have similar machines that you couldn't even touch for that amount. Ask of few of them what their machines are worth.

That one has been on eBay off and on for quite a while now at that price.

To me it is way overpriced but as garys points out it up to the seller and buyer to agree on a price. I don't see anything special about it like rare parts. All the Shopsmith's I have purchased were local sales for both Model 10's and Mark series tools and SPT. I have paid from $0 to $500 for them but mostly around $100 range. The one I paid $500 for was a Mark V 505 with a Bandsaw both made in April 2006. The three I paid the least for were two Model 10's and a Mark 5 Greenie. All three for free which I got at different times. Free is not always a good price though. The Mark 5 Greenie cost me $500 in materials and replacement costs to restore and is the one whose picture has shown up in some of my posts. I have sold it plus the Jointer and Jig Saw that came with it. I made almost no profit on them but I restore Shopsmith as a hobby not to make money. Sometimes I loose money on the sale of my restored Shopsmiths but again it is a hobby that mostly pays for itself.

My Model 10E S/N 1077 would be included in that category. I never plan on selling it so if you are interested in it you will have to talk to my son about it after I pass away. When I first saw it the sellers original price was extremely high at over $800 but I ended up buying it for $175 and only paid that much because of it's historical value. My other one I would include in that category is my Model 10ER S/N R64000. There isn't anything really special about it except that it was the first Shopsmith I restored and it now has pretty much every accessory ever made for the Model 10's except the elusive lower belt guard which I almost had but John outbid me. Sorry that cost you so much John but I really wanted it too.

That in itself tells me it is overpriced even for where it is located. Price can be dependent on location. Where I live I have seen prices all over the place for Shopsmith's advertised for sale. It doesn't mean the seller actually gets that price when they finally accept an offer.

Bill since you are in Florida and that one is in Illinois you may want to look closer to home. Of course you were probabily just pointing out the high price. There was an early Model 10E S/N 1092, one of the original 250, that had been for sale off and on in Florida. If it comes up for sale again you may want to take a look at it for it's historical value like mine. Most of it's original parts were with it but also had the Metal Extension Table upgrade.
