Table height crank handle bolt

I was raising my table on my 510 today and the handle fell off, The shoulder bolt broke. I was able to get the bolt out of the wheel. I went to order one and it is item 173 on the carriage assembly. It says it is not available.

Anyone know the specs for the bolt? I believe it is a 5/16 diameter, 5/8 shoulder but can't figure out the tread size. I found one online with 1/4 20 threads but I am not sure they are.

If it is 5/16 then course threads are 5/16-18 and fine threads are 5/16-24. I would think it is probably 5/16-24.

It does appear to be included with the wheel and handle, PN 514330, $22.23, "Crank Handle (incl 172-174)." I know that doesn't directly answer your question, I don't know the specs but will check it if someone else doesn't answer.

The 1/4-20 threaded part looks to be about a 1/2" long.

The body looks like 11/16" long with a diameter of some where near 5/16".

Just using a rule so these numbers could be off a bit.

This one looks pretty close to Ed’s numbers.

I don't have much luck with Customer Service, but in this case I think I'd call them. The same part is used in a M7 carriage so Shopsmith must have the screws unless they buy the handle as an assembly. I agree with Ed that the shoulder length is 11/16 and think that is going to be a critical measurement for it to work as intended.

1 523092 Shaft Crank Hdl 4.95

I ordered this to replace mine that was missing on my used purchase. I can send a pic of the documents that came with it when I get back home.

I am very impressed and would like to know how you found the updated (or upgraded) part despite Shopsmith's lookup system.

When you look it up under Service Parts the system says:
173 513418 * Item Not Found * 1 9,999.99

But lo and behold I can ignore all that and click the Buy button anyway, and it gives me an error. But if I go to my Cart there is the 523092 part for $4.95. I'm amazed. Yet dumbfounded.
