Hi guys got a 2006 pro planner with manual and no parts list for the newer planner. My ?? is the infeed roller seems to bind with no load and I notice the the infeed roller is designed differently then the older infeed roller because the roller has a nut on each end of the roller. Anybody got any ideas about this binding. The only parts manuals I seeing does not show the nut on the infeed roller. I don't have any idea why this roller has a nut on each end between the washers and roller. It looks like the nut itself is causing the binding rubbing against the washers. Its not a real stiff binding but still binding which bothers me. I put some oil on the washers still binding. Even a parts list for the newer planner might give me some clue. thanks

The last manual for the ProPlaner is copyright 1991 and did not include the exploded diagrams and parts lists. The parts lists and exploded diagrams are the same as here on the SS website as the printed ones I have. I hope I am understanding you correctly for your question. There is NOT a nut on either end of the infeed roller. Each end has a special washer than goes into the Pivot Arm, the one end has a Woodruff Key. The only listing for nuts in the parts list are for 1 nut associated with the bracket reference #38 and the 4 barrel nuts for the table assembly. My Pro Planer is a 1992. Sorry David, I would have to take mine partially apart to see any other details.

Russ, I have the manual for the 2006 pro planner but no parts diagram. And that is my problem the infeed roller definitely has a nut on each end of the roller between the washers and roller and no newer parts manual. I don't think the roller should bind like it is binding. Shopsmith has been know to make changes to the parts on their newer tools but do not update their manual. I had an experience not too long ago with a scroll saw. Like I said this a 2006 so probably my best bet would be to talk to someone at Shopsmith. Thanks for your feedback.

The current online parts diagram doesn't show nuts either, Is it possible that a previous owner added the nuts for an unknown reason, or perhaps installed a non SS roller, and that is what is causing the binding.

If the SS roller does not have nuts, why would it be threaded so you could install nuts?

Remember SS changes parts and does not change their manuals. These nuts I'm referring too seem to be permanent spacers. I took the infeed roller out and it appears that there are brass bearings in the pivot arms and one of these bearings was not aligned correctly. I evened the bearing only to make rotation worst. Will work on getting the bearings extruded just beyond the surface of the pivot arm when I get back working on it hopefully tomorrow.

You just have to resize your pictures so that they fit into the size allowed by the forum (see thread linked below for more info). A picture would help other forum members to better understand what is different with the infeed rollers on your planer in order to offer advice...
