I recently snapped my tool rest clean off the post. I'm not a welder, so I'm wondering if a) it's possible to repair and b) if it's cost efficient to bring it to someone to weld repair it.

I would suggest simply replacing it.

I have had a repaired one that was broken and fixed by a previous owner. I also have a broken one besides. It can be repaired but because they tend to break at the post juncture where the Rest extends to the sides the repair uses up some of the post space so the post doesn't go into the Arm as far. Replacing it may be the better choice. The good news is the Lathe Tool Rest hasn't changed much since the one piece Rest came out for the Model 10E until now.

Thanks for the input! I ended up buying a new one from ShopSmith fairly cheap.
