I need help with my 39 year old Mark V.

I removed the motor from the headstock to get it tested & found a rectangular clip that had broken-off and laying in the bottom of the headstock’s pan. I can’t figure out where this part came from.

The part is rectangular—2 long sides and 2 short sides. It looks like a small metal rod that is bent into an O-shape or D-shape and has a small spring that sits on 1 leg of that O-shaped rod.

My broken part looks identical to part #111 (Retaining Loop) shown in the user manual's explosion drawing. But part #111 is not the broken part because mine is still intact and resides on the inboard end of the Idler Shaft and loops over the large spring that is incorporated into the quadrant assembly. Obviously, the broken part must have come from another part of the machine but this is the only look-alike that I can find.

Unfortunately, I do not see ANY OTHER O-shaped parts on the diagram or in the parts list that are similar to part #111, so I don’t know where to install a replacement clip when I buy it.

It's very difficult to see the exact shapes of these small clips shown in the explosion diagram. To identify the needed part requires the eyes of someone with detailed technical knowledge of the machine so I need the help of this forum---PLEASE identify where this broken part may have come from!

Attached is a photo of the broken part found at the bottom of the headstock pan upon disassembly.

I look for your reply and also appreciate your help with this problem-solving situation.

Your picture did not post. Read the topic "how to post a picture" at the top of the Community forum. There are dimension and file size limits. Both need to be met.

Is it possible the mystery part came from the motor?

Interesting what u say about photo not showing up.
i had posted a large one originally but got warning about too large.

So redid pic to acceptable size limits and it seemed to "take" cuz there were no more error messages.

I will try to post a new resized one tomorrow.

To 'verify' a pix 'took', preview the post before submitting it.

I would not know where to install any ss part if I did not have a ss either.

I am re-posting photo of broken clip. Don't see how to add addtl photo here so will make another post to show the existing part #111 (look-alike) in-place.
