I have a 10ER that I'd like to know a little more about the standard chuck setup. I'm not sure the one on it is quite right and it currently has about a 1/8" wobble at the end of a drill bit on the No 14 chuck. The shaft on mine measures 0.61", which a sleeve attached to the chuck goes on. From what I can tell the shaft is true and very tight. Open to suggestions.

That doesn't look like a chuck that came with a 10ER. The adapter part almost looks like a universal arbor,

The first 10E's had had an adapter, but after that the chucks were made to fit the 10E/ER's without an adapter.

You can see the chucks that have came with Shopsmith's over the years in this post. the early chuck is bottom row on the left, next one came with the rest of the 10's

Yes. 0.61 inch. I assume that is unusual. ID plate for reference.

Very! 0.015 too small. May be the source of wobble.

How/where in the shaft did you measure it and with what.

The link Ron posted is a post of mine showing all the chucks supplied with Shopsmiths over the years. The first two on the lower left were the ones supplied for the Model 10's. If you get a replacement Drill Chuck for your Model 10 get the Jacobs 3326 Chuck part number 102-50X/206100 as shown second from the left on the bottom row in the other post or any of the later Drill Chucks. All will fit your Shopsmith. The original Jacobs 33B chuck on the adapter, P/N 102-50, was only supplied for a short time and are hard to find.

There are two possible reasons your Drill Chuck setup has a wobble. One would be the Arbor shaft is bent that the Drill Chuck is attached to. Hopefully this is the problem and replacing the Chuck will correct the it. The other is the Spindle Shaft on the Shopsmith is bent. If that is the case the Spindle will have to be replaced. If when a saw blade or the sanding disk is mounted and it does not wobble the spindle is not the cause.

The Spindle shaft measures 5/8" with a reverse taper. The arbor should fit snugly on the Spindle. If it is not that could be the problem. Do you have any other arbors or the sanding disk and do they fit snugly? If the Spindle is to small of a diameter it will have to be replaced.

As far as I can tell visually, the shaft is true. I measured it over the exposed length. No taper from what I can tell. I then verified the measurement with a long analog fowler micrometer I have, which showed 0.625. I'll assume the fowler is spot on and the digital is off and just buy a new chuck.

I think this one will work, correct?

Work fer sure - but a used jacobs would be cheaper and imo better.

The current Drill Chuck will work. I use one all the time. A used Jacobs 3326 may be cheaper but do check that it is in good shape. If it looks rusted and pitted on the outside it may be the same on the inside. That will be a problem. I have one I got with a Shopsmith I purchased for restoration that is badly rusted and pitted inside that is unusable and unrepairable. I have had many that are in great shape and with care will last forever.
