Possible Problem Still

John, what you describe could be the same issue that I have. It is not the same from moment to moment. Right now, I am logged in (obviously) and posting in Community. I got to this point by clicking on the back arrow to get back to the login page. When I got there, I had normal display and at least some functionality.

My issue started at about the same time as you (a day or two after the spam notification).

I have attempted to log in using all four of the board styles with the same sort of issues.

I also experience something similar when I get Shopsmith emails and attempt access from there. IT has some work to do. I have also messaged Admin but no response.

I am not convinced this is a 'SS IT' problem. Otherwise Reible and I would be experiencing them also.

Well, I have used 4 different browsers on two different computers and they all act the same. I just tried on a third computer with Firefox with the same result. That computer has never been used on the forum. All the links showed up as never having been visited before (not in the cache). I have one more computer here that I can try. It has never been logged into the forum. I doubt the result will be different.

I just logged in on my smart phone with FF and had the same result. I have never logged into the forum from my phone before.

It has to be a problem with mine and Dusty's "configuration file" whatever that is called on the SS end. Something got corrupted, To repeat again, everything is fine if I don't log in. It only goes south when I log in and the forum recognizes it is me. However it does that.

Another data point. When I tried above with my cell phone I had WiFi on and was connected to my router. I turned WiFi off and connected to the forum with mobile data with the same result. My hone WiFi network was not involved. So what is left? It is a SS IT problem for certain users. When they did the software update something got corrupted. That is not totally unusual. Hopefully they backed everything up so they can revert back to try to fix the problem. HOPEFULLY :(

In reading your posts about this problem, it seems to me that the problem likely isn't on Shopsmith's end or other users should have the same problem.
If I read correctly, it affects all your computers, and it shows up with all your browsers, so the problem isn't likely there either.
The common thing here seems to be your login. You stated that if you log out, things are normal and the board displays correctly. Logging in with your user name on any of your computers brings up this problem. To me, that indicates that something in your user profile is causing the problem. If you can view all the information in your profile, I'd start there and see if anything looks wrong. If not, maybe Shopsmith could take a look at your profile page and see if they see anything messed up, or perhaps do a restore of an earlier profile if that is possible. Likely it isn't because most backups aren't easily available file by file for repairs.

Well, if it is my profile then it is on the SS end. I didn't change it. Dusty is having similar problems. The only thing in my profile is my birth date, occupation and location. I don't know if there are other fields missing. There are on other pages. i.e., there is no link for board style when I click user control panel to name one.

If it is a problem with my login (it seems to be) and I did not change anything how can it not be a SS IT problem. It happened when they updated the forum software, One day everything was fine the next day it was not.

Yes, likely a corrupted user profile on their system where the information is stored. Perhaps if you can get them to work for you, the easiest fix could be to delete your existing profile and create a new one. That way any corruption in the existing profile is gone.

At my last job, we had a local printer that needed to automatically print in our location over the net from a computer elsewhere multiple times a day. At least monthly, it failed to print and simply stored the print jobs in the spool at the remote site. The IT guys never found out why, but they knew that deleting that printer from their system and installing it anew made it work for another month or so.

Here are a few other things to try.

This is the code to reach your profile:

https://www.shopsmith.com/ss_forum/ucp.php?i=173

See "delete all board cookies" at the bottom.

If you can't see this I can give you the code to do that but best we don't post it here in case someone tries it that doesn't wan that to happen.

Board preferences are here:

https://www.shopsmith.com/ss_forum/ucp.php?i=174

See "delete all board cookies" at the bottom.

wow...those links work beautifully. Wish I had had them last week...The second one goes right to the Global Settings and you see right away if your Board Preference is what you want. Be surprised if this does not take care of John's difficulty. I had the same issue he describes of encountering the mis-set Board Style regardless of what machine I logged in with.

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you! :D :D :D I was able to get to my board preferences (which I couldn't before) and change the board style. It was Shipsmith1. I changed it to Shopsmith and it fixed the problem. All the pages are in HTML now. Fingers crossed.
