I am considering purchase of a Stand alone pin router. My question is the column removable ? How is it attached ? Set screws ? I want to be able to convert to under table router and with my incra fence do long boards that column would get in way. My shop is too small to give up space for just pin router. Thanks

The column is bolted on to the base so yes you can remove it. I'm not sure that will be necessary as I have never had to do that with mine. It is also possible if you get the newer version of the system to move the whole table forward extending the distance between the bit and column. You also have the option of cutting at an angle to the table which could also farther increase your options.

If you are wanting to do a lot of large pieces I would explore some sort of guide rail and hand held router as in the long run it will be faster and more accurate then trying to person handle it on a router table. It will also take up a lot less space in the shop to have the work piece stationary rather then the space it needs for in feed and out feed.

Thanks Ed that is what I needed to know. I have Incra table that i want to mount on pin router stand. I do dovetails and box joints on wide boards so I would definitely have to remove column for my idea to work.

Is it the column that’s in your way, or the router arm itself (due to vertical clearance)? If the latter, there’s a very simple upgrade you can do that allows you to easily swing the arm out of the way whenever you need to. Check out the link below for details.
