Does anyone have the part-number and/or a source where I can get the “keyed” washer for 5/8 arbor (I’m using it for the Dado blades).

A couple years ago I looked all over for them near where I live but did not find a replacement. Checking the part number, which I knew at one time, with Shopsmith they didn't make it available. The only supplier I found I could get it from was a Bolt & Nut Supply house with a minimum order of 50. Since I didn't need 50 I haven't bought any yet. I have several complete 505506 5/8" Arbors. At the same time I was looking for the one for the 1/2" Arbor 505505. The only internal keyed or tongue washer I could find was a1/2" one at an auto parts store that I could file down the the tongue to fit the Arbor.

Hopefully you will have better luck and if so let us know since it is an easy part to loose and others may need one or two like me.

The keyed washer is supposed to keep the nut from coming loose. A strong lock washer like a Belleville or notched anti-shake washer should do the job. If you're still worried about it use some red Loctite. Maybe even try a coarse threaded grade 8 nut.

I still have the one that I got almost 30 years ago, so it can't be that easy to lose

I don't recall loosing one of the keyed washers myself but I have received arbors with it missing. Hence the reason I went searching for them myself. As you may know I restore Shopsmith as a hobby so I get arbors in all kinds of conditions with them, including incomplete ones. That includes missing set screws, machined washers, spacers and nuts. Although the keyed washer has been a less common missing part. The inclusion of the keyed washer on the 1/2" and 5/8" Arbors dates back to 1954 and the introduction of the Mark 5. That's a lot of years to keep track of all those little parts.

You don't have to tell me about losing stuff, I can't find a whole 12" steel sanding disk right now [groan]. Those things are usually in the way, the opposite of hard to find. I don't understand why I can't find this, except I have in the past demonstrated the ability to make something I'm looking for turn invisible.

The 1/2" arbor I have with the keyed washer came along with my first Shopsmith, a previously owned 1954 Greenie with a lot of the original parts. Makes sense that they are missing a lot. I'm sure plenty of owners had no idea what it was for. I suppose if needed a 1/2" arbor more often I'd have lost it by now. I think I used it once or twice, but I haven't seen much stuff that with 1/2" holes.

I found that sanding disk today. Had it mounted on top of the drill press so I could turn a tap to get it started.

Worked pretty good . I drilled 3 more holes after tapping that hole. I was drilling in aluminum so going pretty slow, but didn't notice it up there for several days.
