Hole Identification

Hoping someone can identify what the holes in the top of my Mark VII table may be used for (see picture 2 below). At first I just thought my dad or the previous owner drilled them for some unknown reason, but then I came across the picture labeled 1 below which is a current listing on eBay. It also has two very similar drilled holes in the table, though they are on the opposite side of the center slot, but appear to be the same spacing and locations compared to the shaft center. Can't be a coincidence can it?
Also, any idea what the counter-sunk and threaded holes are used for in the end of the miter bar?
